I was just finishing a meal with a friend on Bleecker Street, regaling my friend with tales of my protest photography, when squadrons of police in vans rushed past us, clearly on their way to an event in Washington Square Park. I followed.
In the park was a BLM art protest – easels were set up, and rap music played with dancers. At 7:30, after I had been in the park only five minutes, the police swooped in. They formed an armored line around the DJ as they confiscated the equipment, pushing everyone aside, pushing me to the ground.
I picked up my camera and lenses, to discover that I was in a moment.
